Good architecture can be many different things from person to person. What do you consider to be good architecture?

Personally I think it's when a building is well thought out, when the layout makes sense etc. I also believe good architecture is contemporary.

I think good architecture is contemporary too, the expression "less is more" describes that well. Of course the building has to have a well done layout, otherwise it's not going to fulfill it's purpose.

I think good architecture is when you get the feeling that a building is beautiful. I especially like older looking buildings with a smart layout inside with a contemporary and modern touch to it.

I do agree with you about about older buildings being very beautiful, but a well designed modern building can also be fantastic.

Me too actually, older buildings with a modern interior are the best! Also some modern high-rises with a lot of glass can be extremely nice too.

Good architecture to me is "appealing architecture", which means buildings that looks good or has a wow factor or something similar. :)

  7. Good architecture is when the design is aesthetically pleasing, the program layout is successful, and the architecture responds to its context. Context may be the surrounding area or the natural environment. Any one of my points may vary in its ”weight” and can also be good architecture because opinions vary. Ex, a building doesn't have to connect to its content. It all depends on the concept of the design. Then at that point, do u judge architecture based on its intention or simply based on other factors on what makes good architecture..such as my points.

Until the 1960s there was a consistency and continuity as one moved from the center of Paris toward the edge of the city and beyond. The center, of course, was always more dense, more plugged in, had more happening, and the further one went towards the edge of the city, less so. The consistency, however, was in the feel of things. Everything one encountered felt part of the same world. Be it picturesque, scenic, or even uninteresting, there was a continuity to it all.

    Hello..
I think, good architecture is when the designs are attractive and innovative. Innovative designs makes the whole architecture and buildings popular and best. They attracts people to purchase them. Thanks..

I think that good architecture is attractive and innovative as Peter said, but what people think is attractive depends right! So I also believe that it's when their is something special about a building, a wow factor so to speak.

I agree with what most of you think, the wow factor is very important, it should be something special or unique with a building to make it good architecture.

I'm a big proponent of modern architecture. When we designed my house we used PHX Architecture <<< you can see our house here! It turned out great.

Truly beautiful work is coming out these day.
  13. Good architecture is, to me, something effortless that makes a bold statement and blends function with art. A building's design should reflect the needs of its users.

For example, many newer office buildings are being built with higher ceilings, bigger windows, and open plans that allow more light and air into work areas. While aesthetically pleasing, this also benefits the workers who work and feel better as well as reducing lighting costs and, in many cases, heating and AC costs.
  14. A good architecture is one who is very and a master at critical thinking and a great analyzer, This will enhance the ability of perfection with a definite creative ability of drawing art and mantling and dismantling projects--a true live mechanic with an extraordinary vision.

Even though architecture is a spatial, tactile, and visual medium, and architects naturally convey their ideas primarily through visual means (drawings, models, renderings), they still have a need for writing. And some architects have a knack for creating catchy phrases, many of which have been handed down (more or less accurate to the original) for generations such as the other creative work have been done.
Creativity is anther meaning of an architect and this is the kind of work which need sharp observation because if one is not sharp with work and unable to assume the expected results. Changes in the designs and modification are another work in this field and this is helpful to generate the working guideline. When one has assigned an architect then one should actively join the work of construction because if one is not aware of this kind of work then there is no problem. One can share his/her ideas with the architect and this might be helpful to your work and other benefit of this that one can be update him/herself with the current updates in construction work.

A good architect should possess innovative and creative mind. He should fall in love with nature and has a solution in any problem. He should be able to satisfy his client demand.
